TWIST ON THE THE TYPICAL PRINCESS PLOT IN MARCH 25 PARK SLOPE PERFORMANCE

Now here's a twist on the typical Disney princess plot:  In SPARKLE: The Princess Spectacular!
Cinderella, Tinkerbell, and Snow White work together to rescue Prince Charming from the Witch's evil spell.

The 40-minute musical, aimed at young folks ages 1-7, was conceived and produced by Brooklyn resident and mom Angela Sbano. In Angela's own words, "My goal is to provide young children with an exciting first encounter with a theatrical production."

The performers, presented by Elixer Opera, will include the actress-and former Disney princess, Victoria Rae Sook, and So You Think You Can Dance alum, Courtney Cholminski.

If you'd like to see the show for FREE, come on Monday, March  25th, 10 am at  Holy Family-St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 9th Street at 4th Avenue, Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Everyone who comes to the show invited to dress in their finest royal attire. Afterward there will be pizza, a raffle for some great prizes, and pictures with the cast!

THE CUTEST DAPPLED DACHSUND EVER!

This is Dara and her new pup, Angie. I saw them playing in the park outside of The Old Stone House. Angie was running through the leaves with a huge chunk of moss in her chops. She looked like a cross between a seal and a baby loch ness monster.

Angie is a Dappled Dachsund. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. Dara describes Angie as "playful, obedient, overly-social" and also says that Angie loves big dogs.

THIS IN FROM ELISE LONG: GROUND FLOOR WORK SPACE AVAILABLE IN GOWANUS ARTS BUILDING

Ground Floor Work Space Available in Gowanus Arts Building
(Douglass Street between 3rd & 4th Avenues, Brooklyn)

800 square feet (apr. 30' x 60' with cut outs).

This ground floor work space has internal parking and an internal loading dock, 12 - 14' ceilings, and a separate street entrance. Perfect for a small business or artists who need space but do not currently need a lot of natural light (space currently has one big window at the front of the building but because of massive renovation of the entire block next door, this space also has the potential for adding new windows on the newly exposed eastern wall of our building.)

Currently, the space is divided into several small offices, a parking space, a painting studio and common area. Space currently shares a bathroom and utilities (220 electric and gas space heater) with the music space next door.

Owners would be willing to gut the entire space and put in a separate bathroom ---costs to be negotiated. Also note: must enjoy classical music and jazz (which often emanates from adjacent music space!) Terrific building management company on call 24/7.

Absolutely no smoking in the building at any time.

As is, rent is $2,900/month; two months security. Available November 1st.

Interested? To see space, please call building manager at:

WHAT HEATHER JOHNSTON LOVES ABOUT BROOKLYN

Big Nose Full Body Wines, with their great bottles, good music, and fun folks

Union Market, where I can get a baguette, my favorite cheese, aged sirloin, sorrel lemon verbena pesto, and milk all in one stop

Blue Ribbon Restaurant. Try their Chilled Lobster with a White Burgundy. The crowd rocks.

Starbucks, for making me feel like I live in a small town even though they are a big chain.

Park Slope Seafood, for being so kind when I can't make up my mind and then get salmon again.

Old First Church, for sharing their wonderful kitchen and making consistent contributions to C.H.I.P.S.

El Gran Castillo on Flatbush Avenue, for feeding me great Dominican food since 1989.

The Newstand/Deli on 7th Avenue between 1st and 2nd for patiently feeding the kids of John Jay and 321 every day.

Coney Island Nathans, for making it still worth while to go to the boardwalk for a Hot Dog.

The Cafe at the Botanic Gardens is an oasis where I can get a great Tuna Sandwich with iced tea.

Heather Johnston writes the blog So Good: Food and Wine with Heather Johnston. She is a chef, wine professional, mother, wife and indie filmmaker.
